MODBUS MULTIPLEXING I/O SYSTEM

MOD-MUX is an innovative modular I/O system which provides a simple low cost solution for distributed I/O requirements. The MOD-MUX system consists of stand-alone Digital and Analog Input and Output modules which are connected together on a RS485 two wire multidrop network using the Modbus protocol.

     FEATURES

Complete I/O options. Current, voltage, thermocouples, RTD’s, counting and discrete I/O.

Isolated I/O. All I/O are isolated from the logic and the network.

Standard MODBUS RTU Communication. MOD-MUX is compatible with a wide array of computer-based PC SCADA and DCS systems.

Versatile Network. The basic RS485 network consists of a twisted wire pair which may be extended over long distances using RS485 repeaters or Fibre Optic converters.

Easy to set-up. The modules require no programming and are set-up using Dip Switches on the front panel.

Simple to Install. The module plugs into a standard 11 pin DIN rail mount relay base. All field wiring is on removable connectors.

Intelligent RS232/RS485 Converter. Interfacing the Network to a RS232 serial port on a PC or PLC is made easy with this intelligent converter. All network timing and control is taken care of ensuring optimum performance.

VERSATILE FEATURES

Master and Slave options. When used in point to point applications the Digital output and Analog output modules can be configured to be a Modbus Master to retrieve data from the Slave input modules. When used with a Modbus master such as a PLC, DCS or PC the Output modules can be configured as Slaves on the network.

Modbus Addresses. Each module has a DIP switch on which the Modbus ID is set-up.

Modbus Registers. The data is retrieved using the standard format for register addressing. Digital inputs and outputs can be addressed as discrete bits or as one register.

Module Identification. Each module has a register which contains an identification number for the module type. This allows remote interrogation of modules to ensure the correct module is being addressed.

Thermocouple and RTD. The type of temperature sensor being used is configured by writing a type number to the type register in the modules. The output covers the full range in °C. No adjusting of potentiometers or changing of components is required.

Leading Software Packages. Most PC SCADA packages support the Modbus protocol and will communicate with MOD-MUX without any special driver software being written. This allows a multitude of simple and complex strategies that incorporate data acquisition, alarm summary and management, data logging and reporting, historical data collection and trending, and supervisory control functions.
